Art Class Tuesday, January 22, 2008.
Today was the first day of Art class. During studio time we focused on the art technique of collage.
As a method of arranging the students seating arrangment the instructor asked us to line up outside the door. As we entered the classroom we drew a coloured pompom out of a bag. Based on the colour that we picked we went and sat down at the table in the classroom that was assigned that colour.
Throughout the class this colour was used in our art creations. The first activity we did in relation to our colour was to collect samples of the colour red (my table colour). We were able to collect obejects within the classroom from other students, as well, go outside to collect items from the enviroment. We brought these items back into the classroom and composed a red object collage on the table.
We also listened to some classical music on the stereo. We had to transfer what we were hearing from the music paper using three different coloured felts. After the song finished, we were asked to rip up our papers into pieces so we could compose a collage on a black piece of paper.
Next activity, the class looked through magazines to collect their colour. These magazine pieces would be placed onto a piece of poster paper to create a red collage. We were asked to cut and rip pieces out of magazines. No text or picutures were allowed on the colour pieces or we had to trim them so they did not include any. Then we had to arrange these pieces onto the paper to create a collage. Most groups chose to create a picture of something based on their colour theme however my group created a more abstract collage based on our colour ‘red’. A cyclical creation that we named “Carmen, the broken heart”.
